Landfill

Belle Park is built on a wetland that was filled with garbage in 1954. From then until 1974, the landfill was used for the City of Kingston’s garbage. Since the 70s, the landfill has been covered over and transformed into a golf course, and now a park. Although not as visible as it once was, the landfill continues to have an effect on the area. From day to day discoveries of garbage coming up from the ground, to more invisible toxic leachates, the Belle Park landfill has many pressing present day concerns.
